Chinese authorities have cautioned Nepal regarding imminent flood risks after a massive barrier lake began overflowing along the border. According to China’s Water Ministry, surging inflows could trigger a catastrophic breach in the coming days, escalating the crisis in already devastated downstream communities.

Key Developments:
Casualties & Missing Persons
Catastrophic flash floods and mudslides—likely triggered by a seismically induced glacial rock-and-ice avalanche in Nepal’s Rasuwa district—have claimed at least 359 lives in Nepal. Across Nepal and Tibet, approximately 1,500 people remain unaccounted for, including 558 in Tibet (where 3 deaths have been confirmed and 260 foreigners are missing).
Impact on Foreign Nationals:
India accounts for the largest number of missing tourists, alongside 65 citizens from the United States, 53 from Ukraine, and 51 from Malaysia.
Stranded Indian Pilgrims & Citizens: India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that 288 Indian nationals remain unreachable in Nepal, while roughly 200 pilgrims on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra are stranded on the Tibetan side. Rescue operations have successfully evacuated 21 individuals from Tamil Nadu.
Indian Relief Operations: India has dispatched over 47 tonnes of emergency humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) supplies, including critical medicines, food rations, and essential materials, to assist Nepal’s ongoing search and rescue efforts.
