New Delhi, June 21: The Central Government is considering extending the deployment of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel to five more prisons in Jammu and Kashmir, in addition to the two facilities already under its protection.
According to a CISF spokesperson, proposals are being examined to provide security cover to the High-Security Prison at Mahanpur in Kathua district and the district jails located in Jammu, Anantnag, Kupwara, and Baramulla.
The CISF has been guarding the Central Jails at Srinagar and Kot Bhalwal in Jammu since October 2023. The force oversees security arrangements around these facilities through trained personnel, surveillance technology, and strict entry-control systems.
To strengthen anti-smuggling and crime-prevention measures within the prisons, advanced security equipment has been installed, including non-linear junction detectors for locating hidden electronic devices, dual-view X-ray baggage scanners, and hand-held metal detectors at entry points.
Security arrangements also include mobile bullet-resistant vehicles and continuous patrolling by Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) to safeguard the prison premises.
Officials said efforts are underway to further modernize security infrastructure through the introduction of artificial intelligence-based CCTV surveillance, real-time video analytics, integrated command-and-control systems, and specialized training programs focused on behavioural assessment, inmate monitoring, and anti-sabotage operations.
