Sopore Police Conduct Mass Searches at Jamaat-e-Islami Locations and Attach Property in 2008 Terror Case
Security forces in Sopore launched a widespread crackdown on individuals associated with the banned organization Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), searching 26 separate locations across the district under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
According to an official police statement, raids were executed at residential homes and premises belonging to JeI leaders, members, and sympathizers. Authorities stated that all operations strictly adhered to statutory procedures and legal protocols.
During the multi-location operation, officers confiscated electronic gadgets, organizational literature, and various documents. Investigators are currently inspecting the seized materials to uncover prospective links to the banned outfit’s operations. Officials underscored that these searches form part of a broader crackdown aimed at dismantling separatist structures and unlawful networks to uphold regional stability and public safety.
In a concurrent legal action, police obtained authorization from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court to attach real estate valued at nearly ₹70 lakh linked to an accused involved in a 2008 militancy probe in Baramulla district.
The property—comprising over 12 kanals of land situated in Kawhar Bala, Chandoosa—belongs to Parvaiz Ahmad Famda. The action stems from FIR No. 02/2008, filed at the Chandoosa Police Station, which invokes charges under the UAPA, the Explosive Substances Act, and relevant sections of the Ranbir Penal Code.
Additionally, the NIA Court in Sopore issued a fresh warrant for the arrest of another co-accused, Abdul Rashid Bhat of Rajpora, Chandoosa. Law enforcement reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing all individuals implicated in anti-national activities through standard judicial channels.
