NEW DELHI — Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh recently chaired a high-level review meeting with representatives from WAPCOS Ltd and the Ministry of Jal Shakti to establish a phased implementation roadmap for the long-delayed Ujh Multipurpose Project (UPP) in the Kathua district of Jammu & Kashmir.
Originally conceived nearly a century ago, the crucial infrastructure initiative has been reinvigorated to maximize regional water resources.

Concurrent Land Acquisition: To prevent further delays, preliminary construction will begin immediately while the remaining land acquisition process continues alongside site preparation
Strategic Alignment: The initiative aligns with broader government efforts to fast-track long-stalled water infrastructure projects—such as the Shahpurkandi project restarted in 2019—to prevent vital river waters from flowing downstream unused into Pakistan.
