In a major milestone for Jammu & Kashmir’s cultural legacy, Rajouri’s historic Bhairav Yatra has been officially recognized in India’s National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Celebrating the achievement, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha lauded the Rajouri District Administration and J&K’s Department of Culture for their efforts in achieving this distinction. Sinha noted that the national honor honors generations of devoted followers who preserved the custom, while paving the way for enhanced research, cultural diplomacy, and eco-friendly heritage tourism in the region.
The Bhairav Yatra in Rajouri is a centuries-old sacred street procession dedicated to Lord Kaal Bhairav. Held annually just before Holi through the main markets of the border district, the vibrant tradition recently achieved a major milestone in July 2026 by being officially added to the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage of India.
