In a major boost for domestic motorsport, the Indian Sports Ministry has provisionally designated the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) as an official National Sports Federation. The governing body—which applied for recognition on June 11—is now eligible for government financial support as it works alongside officials to revive Formula 1 in the country.
India previously featured on the Grand Prix calendar from 2011 through 2013, but tax disputes and financial constraints ultimately led to the event’s cancellation. Authorities are now targeting a return to the F1 schedule by 2028.
