Jammu, July 21, 2026:
Jammu Police has intensified its sustained campaign against drug trafficking and substance abuse under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Abhiyan, achieving significant success through strict law enforcement, financial investigations, rehabilitation initiatives, and public awareness programmes.
As part of the ongoing drive, 627 NDPS cases have been registered and 713 accused arrested across the district. During the operations, police recovered 8.299 kg of heroin, 40.042 kg of ganja, 1 kg of opium, and 3.25 kg of poppy straw, dealing a major blow to the narcotics network.
In order to dismantle the financial backbone of drug traffickers, Jammu Police conducted extensive financial investigations, resulting in the freezing of 28 bank accounts, approximately ₹41 lakh, and 123.290 grams of gold suspected to be proceeds of drug trafficking.
Taking stringent action against illegally acquired assets, Jammu Police demolished 29 structures, including 14 pucca houses, 2 commercial shops, and 11 khullas, with an estimated value of approximately ₹19 crore, denying drug peddlers the benefits of illicit wealth.
As part of the lawful disposal of seized contraband, narcotics involved in 13 cases were destroyed, including 35 quintals 95 kg 117 grams of poppy straw, 125 grams of charas, 1,568 capsules, 475 tablets, and 594 bottles of cough syrup.
Jammu Police also initiated the disposal of seized vehicles under Section 52-A of the NDPS Act. Ten seized vehicles have already been auctioned, while orders have been received for the disposal and auction of 10 additional vehicles.
Administrative measures were also strengthened against those involved in drug-related offences. Recommendations have been made for the cancellation of 40 driving licences, 294 Aadhaar cards, 150 vehicle registration certificates (RCs), and 183 government subsidies. Action has also been initiated for the cancellation of one government accommodation allotment.
Focusing on rehabilitation, Jammu Police forwarded the details of 185 drug-addicted individuals to the District Administration for rehabilitation, de-addiction treatment, counselling, and support through ASHA workers, highlighting the force’s commitment to both enforcement and recovery.
To spread awareness and prevent drug abuse, 460 awareness programmes were organised across the district, reaching nearly 46,000 participants, including students, youth, and members of the public.
In addition, special drives against the illegal sale of intoxicants resulted in the inspection of 996 chemist shops, with 28 violations detected and acted upon.
Jammu Police also intensified enforcement under the Excise Act, registering 44 cases and arresting 49 accused. During these operations, police seized 18 bottles of English whisky, 36 bottles of JK Desi Whisky, 53 half bottles, 1,212 quarter bottles of JK Desi Whisky, 40 rum quarters, 28 beer cans, and 55 litres of illicit liquor, besides destroying 3,500 litres of lahan used for manufacturing illicit liquor.
