Jammu, July 7: Bharatiya Janata Party National President Nitin Nabin on Monday called upon the party’s elected representatives and organisational leaders in Jammu and Kashmir to work in close coordination with both the party structure and the public, stressing that organisational strength remains the BJP’s greatest asset.
Addressing a meeting at the BJP headquarters in Jammu, attended by Members of Parliament, MLAs, former MLCs, UT General Secretaries, former District Development Council members and former Block Development Council members, Nabin urged legislators to maintain constant engagement with party workers and the people they represent.
He said that BJP’s elected representatives are an integral part of the organisation and should intensify their efforts to strengthen the party at every level. Emphasising preparedness, he advised party leaders to remain election-ready at all times rather than waiting for poll announcements.
According to party leaders present at the meeting, Nabin reminded legislators that their public performance and organisational contribution are continuously reviewed by the party leadership. He urged them to actively promote the Central Government’s welfare initiatives and ensure that development programmes reach every section of society across Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by BJP National General Secretary and J&K Prabhari Tarun Chugh, J&K BJP President Sat Sharma, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, former Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh and other senior leaders.
Reviewing the prevailing political and organisational situation in the Union Territory, Nabin described BJP as a disciplined organisation built on the dedication of its cadre. He said public representatives and organisational workers must function as a unified team to further strengthen the party’s grassroots presence.
He stressed that MPs, MLAs and senior leaders should maintain regular interaction with party workers, ensuring their participation in every organisational activity. Such coordination, he said, is essential for expanding the party’s reach to every village, ward and polling booth. He also encouraged leaders to remain accessible to the people and effectively communicate the achievements and policies of the Narendra Modi-led Government.
Special emphasis was laid on the Prime Minister’s Mann Ki Baat programme. Nabin instructed the party to organise listening sessions at every booth in Jammu and Kashmir with maximum public participation, stating that the programme has consistently highlighted inspiring stories of ordinary citizens contributing to national development and social transformation.
The BJP National President and other senior leaders appreciated the efforts of MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia for successfully organising Mann Ki Baat programmes across a large number of booths in Udhampur district and encouraged other leaders to replicate similar efforts.
Speaking to the media later, Nabin said he felt privileged to visit Jammu and Kashmir, the land associated with the sacrifices of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookherjee. He said discussions during the meeting centred on organisational activities and the implementation of welfare initiatives of the Central Government.
Describing BJP as the principal opposition party in Jammu and Kashmir, he reaffirmed that the party would continue to raise issues concerning the people. Referring to the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A, Nabin said the constitutional changes had fundamentally altered Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape and strengthened its complete integration with the rest of India.
According to him, the removal of the special constitutional provisions accelerated development, expanded opportunities and improved the lives of people across the Union Territory. He also said that women, who were previously denied several legal rights, now enjoy greater equality and dignity.
Recalling the BJP’s decades-long campaign on the issue, Nabin said the constitutional changes fulfilled the vision of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookherjee under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He reiterated the party’s commitment to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage and civilisational identity of Jammu and Kashmir while advancing its development.
J&K BJP President Sat Sharma said the guidance of the National President would further energise party workers. He affirmed that the organisational network and elected representatives would continue working together to ensure that every campaign and public outreach programme effectively reaches the grassroots level.
Earlier in the day, Nitin Nabin visited Keshav Bhawan and interacted with RSS functionaries, where discussions reportedly focused on the prevailing political situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the BJP’s organisational strategy.
He also paid floral tributes at the statue of Praja Parishad founder Pandit Prem Nath Dogra at Prem Nath Dogra Chowk in Jammu. He was accompanied by Tarun Chugh, Sat Sharma, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, MLA Yudhvir Sethi and several senior BJP leaders.
Remembering Pandit Prem Nath Dogra, Nabin described him as one of the foremost architects of nationalist politics in Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted Dogra’s lifelong contribution to national integration and said his ideals continue to inspire generations of BJP workers. He also recalled the sacrifices made by both Pandit Prem Nath Dogra and Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookherjee in defence of India’s unity, integrity and sovereignty.
Nabin noted that the movement for “Ek Nishan, Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan,” led by Dogra and Mookherjee, laid the ideological foundation for the eventual abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said these constitutional reforms have brought equal rights, democratic empowerment and accelerated development to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Tarun Chugh said the BJP derives inspiration from nationalist leaders such as Pandit Prem Nath Dogra, whose unwavering commitment to national integration continues to guide the party’s vision. He added that the present atmosphere of peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir reflects the sacrifices and determination of such leaders.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said the constitutional changes implemented under Prime Minister Narendra Modi have fulfilled the aspirations for which Pandit Prem Nath Dogra devoted his life, creating an environment of equal rights, expanded opportunities and rapid development in Jammu and Kashmir.
Nitin Nabin concluded his visit ahead of schedule after cancelling his planned visit to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine at Katra and a youth convention in Jammu due to urgent organisational commitments in New Delhi.
