General Dhiraj Seth on Tuesday took over as the new Chief of the Army Staff, becoming the head of India’s 1.3 million-strong Army. A highly experienced officer, he is among the few military leaders to have commanded two operational Army commands along the country’s western front.
He assumes leadership at a crucial time as the Indian Army continues its efforts to enhance self-reliance, modernise its capabilities, and remain prepared to address evolving security challenges along the nation’s borders.
General Seth succeeds General Upendra Dwivedi, who demitted office on June 30 after serving the Indian Armed Forces with distinction for more than four decades.
