Doha, June 22: Twelve Indian nationals were among the 13 people who lost their lives in an industrial accident at a facility in Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City, according to officials.
The Indian Embassy in Doha confirmed the deaths through a statement on social media, citing information provided by Qatari authorities. The embassy stated that all those injured in the incident are reported to be in stable condition and are receiving necessary medical care.
The mission said it is maintaining close coordination with Qatari officials to assist affected Indian citizens and their families. Efforts are also underway to facilitate the early repatriation of the mortal remains of the deceased to India.

Speaking at a media briefing, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Saad bin Shreida Al-Kaabi, confirmed that 13 individuals of Indian and Pakistani origin died in the accident.
The Indian Embassy reiterated its commitment to supporting the families of those killed or injured and said it remains in continuous contact with local authorities.
Earlier, the embassy had expressed sorrow over the tragedy, noting that several people were injured while others were initially reported missing. It also conveyed solidarity with the people and government of Qatar during the difficult period and wished a speedy recovery to those hurt in the incident.
According to Qatar’s Ministry of Interior, the accident resulted from a technical failure during operational activities at the facility. The incident claimed 13 lives and left 66 people of different nationalities injured.
Emergency and security teams responded immediately, implementing standard safety and rescue procedures. The injured were shifted to hospitals for treatment, while search and recovery operations at the site were completed.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the precise cause of the malfunction and examine all circumstances surrounding the explosion.
The ministry further clarified that the incident did not result in any gas leakage and posed no danger to nearby residents or the environment.
QatarEnergy stated that the explosion and subsequent fire occurred on Sunday evening during the start-up phase of operations at the Barzan gas supply facility in Ras Laffan.
