Undertrial Prisoner Passes Away After Falling Ill in Anantnag Jail

Srinagar, June 20: An undertrial inmate lodged in the District Jail, Anantnag, died after being shifted to a hospital following a health complaint, officials said on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Suneel Kumar, a resident of Gandhi Camp in Jalandhar, Punjab. He was facing charges in a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

According to officials, Kumar reported feeling unwell during the night. He was immediately taken to Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, for treatment, where doctors later declared him dead.

Authorities said that proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have been initiated to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the death. Further details are awaited.
