Rajouri | June 18, 2026 The Animal Husbandry Department, Jammu, today organized an awareness camp at Kewal to educate livestock farmers and unemployed youth about various government schemes aimed at promoting livestock development and self-employment opportunities.
During the programme, officials highlighted the benefits of flagship initiatives such as the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) and the Integrated Dairy Development Scheme (IDDS). Participants were informed about opportunities available for establishing and expanding dairy, sheep, goat, poultry and other livestock-based enterprises. Farmers and youth were encouraged to take advantage of these schemes to generate sustainable income and employment.
The awareness camp also focused on livestock health management, with experts educating participants about common animal diseases, preventive measures, vaccination schedules, treatment options and mitigation strategies. Free medicines were distributed among livestock farmers attending the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sajjad, Extension Officer, Publicity Wing, Animal Husbandry Department, delivered a detailed lecture on departmental welfare schemes and modern livestock management practices. Dr. Gulab Singh, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon (VAS), and Dr. Jameel, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon (VAS), also addressed the gathering and shared valuable information on scientific animal husbandry and healthcare.
Former Sarpanch Kewal, Mohd Farooq Inqlabi, appreciated the department for reaching out directly to rural communities and creating awareness about government welfare programmes. He stated that schemes like HADP and IDDS have the potential to strengthen the rural economy, create employment opportunities for youth and improve the livelihoods of livestock farming families.
He urged unemployed youth and farmers to actively participate in such awareness programmes and make full use of government schemes to establish self-employment ventures and further strengthen the livestock sector in the region.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from local farmers, livestock owners and youth, who interacted with experts and sought guidance on various aspects of animal husbandry and government support schemes.
