Vice Chief of Army Staff to assume command on June 30 following the retirement of General Upendra Dwivedi.
The Central Government has appointed Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth as the next Chief of the Army Staff (COAS). Currently serving as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Seth will take over the top position in the Indian Army from the afternoon of June 30, 2026.
He will succeed General Upendra Dwivedi, who is set to retire from active service on June 30 after completing his tenure as the Chief of the Army Staff.
The appointment marks a significant transition in the leadership of the Indian Army. With extensive operational and command experience, Lt. Gen. Dhiraj Seth is expected to lead the force through evolving security challenges while continuing efforts to strengthen the Army’s operational preparedness and modernization initiatives.
