Cabinet Clears ₹10,000 Crore Growth Fund: Major Boost for Jammu & Kashmir SMEs
Small and medium enterprises across Jammu and Kashmir stand to gain a vital new funding avenue following the central government’s green light for a ₹10,000 crore dedicated SME reserve. Local enterprises—predominantly rooted in regional staples like artisan handicrafts, agri-processing, and horticulture—frequently encounter hurdles when trying to secure expansion capital, enter broader markets, and scale operations.
Authorized by the Union Cabinet on Tuesday, the newly established SME Growth Fund (SGF) focuses on injecting direct equity into proven businesses poised for scale. Unlike standard loan mechanisms, this initiative targets established SMEs with patient, long-term equity. Officials noted that because current venture schemes predominantly back early-stage startups and micro-ventures, mid-sized enterprises often face a distinct capital shortfall when attempting substantial expansion.
