A vehicle mishap in the Pogal Paristan area of Ramban district resulted in two deaths and left seven others in critical condition late Wednesday night.
The incident occurred around 10:00 PM when a Tata Sumo (registration JK14A-9715) carrying nine individuals was en route from Senabati to Chunthan. The vehicle veered off the road and rolled down an adjacent hillside slope.
The vehicle’s operator, 30-year-old Vijay Singh, son of Raj Singh from Chunthan, died instantly at the scene. The eight passengers who sustained injuries were initially rushed to Primary Health Centre (PHC) Ukhral for stabilization before being dispatched to specialized hospitals for advanced care.
Among the critically injured:
Soni Chand (32) and Sunil Singh (26) were transferred to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu. Sunil Singh later succumbed to his injuries during treatment, bringing the fatality count to two.
Anand Singh (26), Anil Chand (26), Naresh Singh (24), Jatinder Singh (24), Ravinder Singh (24), and Ravjit Singh (27)—all residents of the Chunthan and Senabati areas in Pogal Paristan tehsil—were admitted to GMC Anantnag.
Local police have registered the incident and initiated further proceedings. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh extended his condolences to the bereaved families and expressed sorrow over the tragic losses.
