The Government of India has appointed Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit as the 29th Chief of the Air Staff (CAS).

He will assume the substantive rank of Air Chief Marshal on the afternoon of October 31, 2026, succeeding Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh upon his retirement.

Command and Staff Appointments
Throughout his career, Air Marshal Dixit has served in key field, training, and strategic positions:
Vice Chief of the Air Staff (VCAS): Serving in this role prior to his appointment as CAS. 
Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (CISC): Headed the Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee (HQ IDS), coordinating tri-service integration. 
Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C): Commanded the Central Air Command (CAC). 
Base & Unit Commands: Commanded a Mirage-2000 fighter squadron, a frontline fighter air base in the Western Sector, and a premier fighter training base in the Southern Sector. 
Education and Decorations
Air Marshal Dixit is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, the Defence Services Command & Staff College in Bangladesh, and the National Defence College (NDC) in New Delhi. 
In recognition of his distinguished and exemplary service, he has been awarded several presidential military honors:
Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) – 2026
Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) – 2023
Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) – 2011
Vayu Sena Medal (VM) – 2006
His tenure as Chief of the Air Staff will extend through December 31, 2028.
